Améry, Jean (Hans Maier)

Born in Vienna in 1912, trained as a bookseller, escaped to Belgium in 1938, worked in resistance movement, arrested in 1943, deported to Auschwitz in 1944 after torture and solitary confinement in Breendonck, forced labor in Buna/Monowitz concentration camp, death march, liberation in Bergen-Belsen, work as a writer, suicide in 1978.
